DDSL REFEREES

Hi All,

We have been involved in School Boy Soccer within Ireland for over 20 Years now and have decided to set up this Blog to allow all clubs, players, managers and parents discuss and express their views in relation to School Boy Soccer in Ireland.

We have decided to kick off with a discussion in relation to referees in the Dublin & District Schoolboy League. We have recently heard of a game that was to take place in Dublin and the referee failed to show up. In this particular situation the home team arrived at their ground at 9:00am on the particular morning to re-mark a pitch that had lost its marking due to bad weather the night previous. They put up the nets and prepared their team for an 11:00am KO. The opposing team also arrived early for the game and also began their pre - match warm ups etc....

Both teams then stripped for the game and presented themselves on the pitch for the game. The referee never showed up. The manager of the home team tried to contact the referee and was unable to do so.

In this particular instance at least 50 People gave up their weekend morning for no reason... This is not the first time we have heard of a situation like this, what should have happened? Should the referee have contacted the league and informed them he or she was unable to fulfill the fixture, should they have contacted the teams?

Have you ever experienced this situation or any other similar situation with referees in the DDSL?

Please let us have your thoughts and comments, maybe they will help to improve the system or maybe not?

Click on the title to post your comments in relation to this topic...

Please pass on our contact details to all you know that would be interested, if we can get enough feed back we may be able to improve things at grass root level....

Yours,

SSI........
